Flying Lady Winery sits high on Spring Mountain in St. Helena, up in the mountains of Napa Valley. Its tasting room is small on purpose. Most tasting rooms in Napa are built for crowds, and this one hosts 8 to 10 people at a time.
In a room that intimate, it had to feel high end without leaning too luxe. We reached for a few Napa classics: raw and refined timber, green tile, gold accents and dramatic stone.
The grounds are secluded, and your party gets to feel like they have the valley to themselves. Inside, we wanted the room to feel as big as possible. On one side, you can see straight into the barrel room, a massive space with vaulted ceilings. On the other, panoramic doors open onto a patio that looks out over the valley. Between the two, the little room borrows space in both directions, inward and out, and feels far larger than it is.
